Dothan approves $6.43 million pickleball complex, secures county and CVB support

The project will include 25 courts, one designated as a championship court with spectator seating. “It's 25 total courts, 1 of those being a championship court where you can have, seating or rounding,” the city manager said during discussion. The manager also told commissioners the city planned to “approve this and get started pretty much right away” on the construction timeline.
Commissioners and staff said most of the project’s costs are expected to be offset over time by tournament fees and related lodging and sales-tax revenue. A staff speaker told the commission the courts would be covered and that organizers anticipated hosting several large tournaments annually to generate revenue.
Commissioners thanked staff and outside partners for navigating early funding hurdles and for coordinating multiple funding sources. The motions for each resolution carried on voice votes.
Project partners named during the meeting included Houston County and the Dothan Area Convention and Visitors Bureau; the stadium location referenced in the agreements was Ripview Stadium.
