Limestone County officials said the Goodsprings Senior Center is temporarily short-staffed because several employees are out ill or undergoing surgery, and the county may temporarily move meal service to nearby nutrition centers to meet contract requirements.
The chairman (unnamed) told commissioners that one employee at Goodsprings is battling cancer and another is scheduled for surgery this week, leaving the activity center without its usual staffing. “We really wanna serve that area. We're trying the best we can to get somebody out there,” the chairman said, adding that he and a staff member planned to open the center and host activities on Thursday.
County staff noted a distinction between activity centers and nutrition centers. The transcript indicates the county operates several full nutrition centers (Elkmont, East, Tanner, Owens) and an activity-only center in Goodsprings. The speaker said a contract with “Tarcog” (as referenced in the transcript) requires the county to operate nutrition centers to provide meals; when staffing is insufficient at Goodsprings the county may temporarily move meal service to another center that is a “full fledged nutrition center.”
Officials said Goodsprings typically operates two days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). The commission said the staffing plan includes a request to add a position to restore regular service to Goodsprings and that the commission may have a staffing item on the next agenda to fill the role as full- or part-time. The transcript records the county’s intent to prioritize continued nutrition service while trying to preserve activity programming at Goodsprings.
