At its annual May meeting, the Trussville City Schools Board of Education elected Dr. Steve Ward as board president and re-elected Sherry Tolbert as vice president.
Board counsel Whit Coleman explained the process under state law and presided over nominations; Kim DeChaseau nominated Dr. Ward after declining to serve as president during an emotional statement about a recent family loss. The board then held a roll-call vote. The record shows members voting yes to elect Ward; the clerk recorded the roll-call affirmative votes and President Ward assumed the gavel.
Sherry Tolbert was nominated and elected vice president by roll-call vote. Dr. Ward thanked the board for the honor and praised previous presidents and trustees. The board confirmed Dr. Martin will continue to serve as executive secretary of the board, as required by law.
