Port Washington — The Common Council on May 20 approved a conditional‑use grant allowing outdoor dining at Athira Foods (1590 Harris Drive) subject to five standard conditions recommended by staff and the Plan Commission.
Robert Harris, director of planning and development, explained the request seeks to repurpose a former bank drive‑through canopy area for covered outdoor seating and additional tables for the grocery and carry‑out store. Because outdoor dining is a conditional use in the applicable zoning district, the request required a Plan Commission recommendation, a public hearing and council action. Harris said the Plan Commission recommended unanimous approval and staff recommended the conditional‑use grant with the five standard conditions included in the packet.
No members of the public spoke for or against during the hearing. The council approved the conditional‑use grant on the staff terms by voice vote.
The approved conditions (standard for outdoor dining) were included in the staff packet; the council did not alter those conditions at the meeting. The applicant may proceed with outdoor seating under the terms of the conditional‑use grant and any associated land covenant.
