Nicole Dupree, from Jersey City’s Office of Employee Benefits, told the Municipal Council caucus on Monday that the city will seek a change order to increase the contract amount for its prescription benefit manager by $31,205,711.02.
Dupree identified the vendor as the prescription benefit manager that provides coverage for retirees, active members and their dependents, and said the increase is driven by higher utilization and a larger number of lives on the contract.
Council members asked whether the change order would mean increased drug spending this year; Dupree replied that the rise is due to “usage and the number of dependents, the number of lives on the contract.” The resolution number read at caucus was 25-360.
No vote occurred during caucus; the item was presented for council consideration at the upcoming formal meeting. The Office of Employee Benefits did not provide a line-by-line breakdown of the additional costs during the caucus; Dupree said she could confirm further details on request.
The administration’s presentation did not identify whether the change order would be funded from a specific municipal operating account or reserves; the caucus discussion did not contain a formal funding-source declaration.
