At the May 19 meeting, Sedalia city officials directed staff to draft an amendment to the city's dispensary operating hours, changing the closing time from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
A city official told the council a local marijuana dispensary had raised concerns about the current 8 p.m. closing requirement, which dated from an earlier ordinance written when only medicinal sales were permitted. The official said, "back when the ordinance was written ... it says that the business needs to close at 8PM. And, I would like to make the motion that we, amend that to close at 10PM or direct staff to amend that for us and then bring it back to the team to vote on." A council member noted allowing later hours "could kinda curb the gray and black market after the PM time." The council member's motion to direct staff to prepare an amendment was seconded; the council approved the directive by voice vote and the item will return for future consideration.
No ordinance text was adopted at the meeting; the council only directed staff to prepare the proposed amendment and bring it back for council action. The record shows the matter will be scheduled for a subsequent meeting where council members will vote on any specific ordinance change.
