The Batavia Public Schools Board authorized a contract with RSP and Associates for enrollment and facility planning services in the amount of $33,100.
Treasurer Tony and staff told trustees the district has not reviewed elementary-school boundaries in more than 20 years and that several proposed housing developments near Hooverwood and other schools make a modern enrollment study prudent. The contract will produce five-year enrollment projections, analyze housing yields by unit/bedroom, and assess programmatic (functional) capacity — that is, how classrooms, cafeterias and support spaces are used rather than fire-code maximums — so the district can evaluate boundary, capacity and program options.
Board member Rob moved the authorization; Erin seconded. The motion passed on roll-call vote. Trustees discussed the study’s scope, the difference between building capacity and programmatic capacity, and confirmed the study will include a five-year projection to inform fall planning.
Why it matters: The study will give the district data to consider whether current attendance boundaries and space programming still match neighborhood growth and to inform decisions about where to add staff, change programming or reassign parcels.
