The Benton County Board of Supervisors authorized the county attorney’s office to hire a summer intern and approved up to $5,000 in county matching funds to pay part of the position.
The board approved the hiring after the county attorney’s office told supervisors the candidate, Bridal Patel, is a law student at Drake University and would work full time beginning June 2 through the second week of August. The office said Patel would perform video review and other work the office routinely assigns to interns; a background check was required before she starts.
County staff said the county’s share of the summer intern costs would be capped at $5,000 and that the county attorney’s office budgeted that amount in the county attorney incentive fund. The board approved a motion to authorize the hire, with supervisors voting in favor. Staff also said they would return with the intern’s hourly rate and any benefits questions for the board to finalize.
During the meeting, county staff asked that the board “authorize” the hire now and allow staff to bring back compensation details later; the board approved that approach.
The hire is contingent on the required background check and finalization of pay details, which the county attorney’s office said it would present to the board after they are confirmed.
