Kingdom Life Fellowship proposes community center and daycare for vacant Meadows Elementary campus

Representatives of Kingdom Life Fellowship Church of Nitro presented a written proposal to the Cabell County Board of Education on May 20 to use the old Meadows Elementary School property as a community hub offering outreach services, an after‑school center, a licensed daycare and a permanent food and clothing pantry.

Rashawn Brown, who introduced the group, described Kingdom Life Fellowship as “a Christ centered multicultural community focused ministry” and said the facility would host weekly and monthly services to nearby residents. Rashad Sanders said the campus would serve Huntington congregants as an extension of the church’s Nitro campus and would host Sunday services, midweek Bible study, leadership development classes and weekly prayer meetings.

Brown outlined proposed community services including monthly milk and bread giveaways, coat drives, backpacks and school supplies distribution, a clothing closet, a food pantry open weekly, an after‑school homework/tutoring center with internet access, and a free fall festival. The group also proposed creating local jobs and volunteer opportunities to staff after‑school programs and outreach activities.

The presenters asked the board to consider an agreement that would make the vacant facility available to the church for these activities and said they would partner with the district on revitalizing the space to serve the surrounding community.

Ending: The board accepted the proposal packet; no lease or formal agreement was decided during the meeting. The district will review the written materials and respond per its property/lease procedures.
