The comments came during the public comment period of the Commissioners Court meeting and were led by property owners and business operators who said they learned of the study only recently and have not been adequately notified. Theresa Seabach Holland, who said her family owns 300 acres southeast of Merkur Road, told the court the proposed alignment would “cut right through the middle of our land” and that engineers informed her the county planned to preserve a corridor through her property “without any compensation unless it gets built someday.” Holland told the court that the alignment would block key access points and eliminate a planned residential development of about 750 homes, and that she conservatively estimates “$73 to $78 million” in lost property-tax revenue on her land alone over 17 years if the corridor is held but construction delayed.
