Garfield Heights City Schools reports STEAM field trips and new Little Free Library at Maple Leaf

A staff member for Garfield Heights City Schools provided updates on recent STEAM and enrichment activities, saying middle school students visited Cedar Point for hands-on STEM activities and attended a choral workshop at Baldwin Wallace University.

The staff member said the trips were intended to expand students’ real-world exposure to science, technology, engineering, arts and math and to promote curiosity about future education and career paths. The updates also included a literacy initiative: Maple Leaf Elementary hosted a ribbon-cutting for a new Little Free Library, and students celebrated with a book selection and ice cream.

According to the staff member, Garfield Heights Middle School sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders visited Baldwin Wallace for a college choral workshop led in part by choral director Mackenzie Hurd and participated in activities designed to expose them to a college campus environment. The staff member also described a recent Cedar Point visit during STEM Week that included hands-on activities spanning science, technology, engineering and math.

The staff member highlighted Maple Leaf Elementary’s Little Free Library, noting the school was selected as one of 200 schools to receive a Little Free Library. Students took part in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, chose a free book on the lawn and were served ice cream to mark the occasion. The staff member closed the remarks with the exclamation, “Go Bulldogs!”
