The Homewood City Council voted to set a public hearing June 23 at 6 p.m. to consider an amended development plan for property at 800 Lakeshore Drive that the meeting materials described as Samford University’s proposed Bulldog District.
Planning and Development reported the committee voted 5-0 to send the amended plan to a public hearing. "We sent the public hearing for June ... and it's still on the agenda to be discussed," Councilor Andress said while reporting for Planning and Development.
The proposed amendment would permit construction of two separate residential villages on the parcel. The council also indicated related items for properties at 1601 Parkview Lane and 60601 University Park Place would be carried forward to public hearings at the same June session; the Planning and Development committee sent those items to the council without recommendation.
Councilors set the public hearing by voice vote; the action passed unanimously. The hearing will give neighbors and other stakeholders a formal opportunity to comment on the amended final development plan and any zoning changes before the council considers approvals.
Next steps: the public hearing is scheduled for June 23 at 6 p.m.; Planning and Development will prepare and present the committee’s report at that hearing.
