Homewood sets public hearings for Sanford University development proposals

The Homewood City Council set public hearings in June and July for a cluster of development and rezoning requests linked to Sanford University’s campus and nearby properties.

The council set a public hearing for June 23 at 6 p.m. to consider an amended development plan for the property at 800 Lakeshore Drive — the proposed Bulldog District that would permit construction of two residential villages. Planning and Development committee members recommended sending the item forward; committee discussion reported that the motion passed 5–0.

Separately, the council set multiple public hearings for June 9 at 6 p.m. to consider rezoning and development requests for 1601 Parkview Lane and 60601 University Park Place, described as a mixed‑use Creekside District West with commercial, retail, dining, entertainment, hospitality and some residential housing. Planning and Development reported committee votes (5–0 in committee) to forward the items without recommendation pending public hearings.

Councilors agreed to carry related zoning amendments — including an amendment to Article 4 of the city zoning ordinance to revise permitted uses in PMUD (planned mixed‑use district) — forward to a June public hearing. The planning committee reported the zoning text amendment would be carried to the June public hearing.

Councilors and staff did not adopt final approvals at this meeting; they only set public hearing dates and recorded committee recommendations and vote counts. Additional materials and public testimony will be collected before any final council action.
