District 62 board approves Organic Life renewal; student meal prices rise 10 cents

Board members were told the contract language ties annual price changes for the provider to the Consumer Price Index for “food away from home”; staff said that index produced a 3.6% increase for the coming year.
Under terms presented to the board, the district will increase paid student meal charges by $0.10 each: breakfast from $1.50 to $1.60 and lunch from $3.05 to $3.15 for the 2025–26 school year. Staff also reported provider cost figures showing the per-meal provider reimbursement rising from about $2.12 to $2.19 for breakfast and from about $4.21 to about $4.36 for lunch.
Board members were told the price changes follow state procurement rules administered by the Illinois State Board of Education and that deviations from the CPI trigger require special approval from that state agency. A district staff presenter said the district does not run the food program to generate profit, but that modest, regular price adjustments help limit cross-subsidization between paid and free/reduced meals.
The motion to approve the Organic Life contract renewal and the 2025–26 school meal fees was moved, seconded and approved by roll-call vote at the meeting. Board minutes record the motion passed and board members present voted in favor.
Parents and families with questions about student meal eligibility or fee-based meal purchases were directed to the district business office and to the student nutrition staff.
