Rachel Young, auditor, told the Bruton City Council on May 19 that the city's 2024 financial audit received an unmodified opinion, commonly called a "clean" opinion. The audit has been completed and posted to the city's website.
The report matters because a clean audit indicates the city's financial statements were presented fairly in all material respects. Young also noted the city received the Government Finance Officers Association certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for 2023 and that the 2024 submission is under review by the association.
Young said, "it was another clean opinion audit. The opinion for us is called unmodified, but that is what is otherwise known as a clean opinion for 2024." She told councilors there were "no issues or findings that we need to report." She thanked city staff for supporting the audit work.
Mayor Lovelace and councilors did not ask follow-up questions after Young’s presentation. The audit file is publicly posted on the city's website, per Young's remarks.
The council took no formal action beyond receiving the report during the meeting; the item was presented as the new-business audit report and not moved to a motion or vote.
