Carmel approves Calumet $2.83M West Main award; multiple road projects move forward

Brad Pease, the city's director of engineering, said the lowest responsible bidder for the West Main Street project was Calumet at $2,827,000 and recommended the board award the contract to the firm. He also presented related purchase and professional service requests tied to projects the board previously reviewed.
The West Main Street contract corresponds with an Indiana Department of Transportation local roads and bridges matching grant (see authority list) that covers half the project cost. The grant award amount presented to the board was $1,171,958.89. The board approved the grant acknowledgement and the Calumet purchase order during the meeting.
Separately, the board approved a construction contract for Community Drive raised crosswalks to Reith Riley Inc., which Pease identified as "the lowest and most responsive responsible bidder, in the amount of $307,000." The board also approved an additional-services request for Crossroad Engineers PC for construction inspection work on the Community Drive project in the amount of $61,200.
The board approved a professional-services amendment for construction inspection on Clay Center Road (Main to Clay Center Elementary) to Engineering Resources Inc. for $189,165; Pease said the inspection work corresponds with a contract previously awarded to HIS Contractors and will begin after school is out.
Each item in this set of road and inspection approvals was moved, seconded and approved with the board recording "Aye" and the chair noting the motion carried.
Background: The INDOT matching grant is a 50/50 program; the board acknowledged the grant agreement as part of authorizing the West Main work. The related purchase orders and professional services items were presented as corresponding to bids and awards previously discussed by the board and by the parks or other city bodies where applicable.
The board's approvals allow construction and inspection work to proceed later this summer as scheduled.
