Galt reviews 12 grant requests for 2025–26 special‑event sponsorship program; council to act June 3

Jackie Garcia, parks and recreation staff, presented the city’s Special Event Sponsorship Program preview on May 20 and said staff received 12 applications requesting a combined $37,220 for FY 2025–26.

The nut graf: the requests cover police and public‑works service costs, rental waivers and event hard costs; council will review the full funding package and take action at a June 3 meeting.

Garcia said the program’s policy caps sponsorships at $5,000 per event unless council approves higher amounts. Applicants asked for city support for a mix of continuing events — including wine/beer and food festivals, veterans gazebo work, trick‑or‑treat on Fourth Street, and alumni and school parades — and new events such as a children’s makers market.

Speakers from applicant organizations described how funds would be used. Grace Malson of Galt Sunrise Rotary said the group’s Taco de Mayo proceeds support scholarships and a community winter dinner. Mariah Bray, co‑activities director at Galt High School, urged restoration of the Galt High homecoming parade and corrected a date to Sept. 26. Becky, organizer of the children’s makers market, said the event grew from 56 booths and 90 kids to 96 booths and more than 200 kids and asked for help with street closure and material costs.

Kat, representing the Galt Chamber of Commerce, outlined multiple chamber requests including veteran’s gazebo planning to honor service members in the Fourth Street Promenade and asked for city support to obtain railroad approval and pursue fundraising. Council members expressed broad support, including offers of staff assistance and an interest in helping veterans groups seek partners and grants.

Mayor Farmer and staff clarified this was a preview; formal approval and potential waivers will return to council on June 3 for action.
