Mark Moore, assistant superintendent of human resources, said the later start responds to construction timelines presented earlier in the meeting and that the district’s historical practice is to propose calendars one year in advance. He said the district has not committed to a multi-year calendar change and plans to move back toward the typical calendar over two to three years rather than making a single large shift.
Moore told the board that graduation is expected to remain on the historically used date — the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (tentatively May 29, 2027) — but that the district will negotiate the graduation contract with the Now Arena and the date remains subject to a future agreement. Administrators said they had shared calendar considerations with local bargaining-unit leadership and expected mixed feedback from staff, parents and stakeholders. The district plans further communications and supports for families and staff, including addressing questions about high-school scheduling, AP testing, college-start opportunities and athletics.
No formal board vote on the 2026–27 calendar was recorded in the May 19 transcript; administrators presented the proposed calendar and answered board questions about impacts and negotiations related to graduation.
