Cary Grove educator, paraprofessional honored as McHenry County Educator of the Year recipients

The CHSD 155 Board of Education recognized two Cary Grove High School employees who won McHenry County Regional Office of Education awards: teacher Lana Bacta was named high school teacher of the year and paraprofessional Chris Liggott won paraprofessional of the year, district staff said.
Principal Rebecca Soffert described nominations that highlighted Liggott’s work in special education and on athletic fields and Bacta’s leadership building multilingual supports, career readiness coursework and a Latino Leadership Club. Soffert said Bacta has been with the district 22 years and helped implement a multilingual study hall and career‑readiness curriculum, led outreach that prepared students for the ACCESS assessment and planned a parent‑night event using student speakers.
Soffert said work by Bacta and colleague Katina Frerichs helped produce six students who passed the ACCESS test this year where the school previously had none. She also credited Liggott for making curriculum accessible to diverse learners and building relationships with students inside and outside the classroom.
Both award winners thanked colleagues and administrators for the nomination and said they were humbled by the recognition. The board invited the staff forward at the meeting for public acknowledgement.
