Perrysburg Exempted Village School District trustees and staff described steps to broaden community engagement at the May 19 board meeting, including a new communications task force and a proposal for brief, board‑authored post‑meeting summaries.
The district’s community engagement committee reported that a communications task force—drawn from 17 applicants with professional marketing and communications experience—held its first meeting. Members will meet multiple times in May and June to develop external messaging, with an early focus on reaching nonparent audiences and clarifying financial needs.
Board member discussion included a proposal for very short, consumable updates after board meetings—three bullet points or a one‑paragraph “movie trailer” summary of key items. One trustee volunteered to pilot the approach; trustees agreed to a rotation so the burden is shared. Staff volunteered to help produce the draft summaries.
Administrators reiterated plans for public forums on June 5 (10 a.m. and 6 p.m., the Commodore) to discuss levy scenarios and hear resident feedback. The district also said it will continue to refine outreach materials and partner with the communications task force to clarify what programs have been reduced, what would be restored by new revenue and what a proposed levy would and would not do.

A board retreat in July will include governance topics and an agenda item suggested for discussion: whether to consider a student representative to the board. Trustees said further planning and timelines will be set ahead of the ballot filing window in August.
