Technology leaders describe device initiatives, network upgrades and cybersecurity work

Manny Verduzco, who leads technology and information security operations, told trustees the district’s technology framework aligns with the Texas Education Agency’s long‑term technology plan and includes five domains: empowered learning, equitable access, safety and security, collaborative leadership, and reliable infrastructure.
“We continue our third grade and eighth grade Chromebook student device one‑to‑one initiative,” Mr. Verduzco said, and the division reported 3,000 classroom interactive flat panels were deployed this school year.
Technology staff described a network operations center upgrade (replacing a 13‑year‑old legacy system), improvements to the district website, enhanced student cyber‑safety initiatives and a phase‑1 rollout of campus panic‑alarm technology in coordination with police services and operations. The division also said it achieved an enterprise compliance standard (F5) for critical reporting systems used for state accountability.
The tech team noted exploratory extracurricular labs this year — robotics, drones, esports and interactive gyms in 12 campuses — and said teacher professional learning is ongoing to ensure classroom integration of devices and software. The department emphasized coordination with police and operations on physical and digital safety projects.
