On May 20 the Board of Public Works approved Change Order No. 1 for the 2025 Street Construction Project B to add infrastructure for lighting along First Street and River Drive at a recommended cost of $42,000.
Staff said the addition was requested by a resident and supported by Alder Killian; staff reviewed the area and concluded the lighting “made sense” because a segment between River Drive and the rest of First Street lacked illumination. A staff member said the $42,000 is for infrastructure only; the poles and fixtures will be budgeted in 2026 and installed after that budgeting and procurement process.
Board member 1 moved to approve the change order; Board member 2 seconded the motion. The board voted in favor.
The approved change order adds conduit, wiring and related infrastructure to extend lighting through the identified gap; the meeting record does not show final vendor selections for poles or an installation schedule beyond the note that poles will be budgeted in 2026.
