Wausau Plan Commission approves rezoning of 1339 Curling Way for Revi Design

The Wausau Plan Commission voted to rezone 1339 Curling Way from a medium industrial zoning district to a high industrial zoning district for Revi Design during its May 20, 2025 meeting. The motion to approve, made by Commissioner Brueggemann and seconded by Commissioner Pournaman, passed by voice vote after a public hearing with no speakers.

City planning staff recommended approval with the lot-combination condition, saying the property's existing heavy-industrial use and surrounding land uses make the rezoning a fit for the area. "Staff does recommend approval with the condition just because there's good land use consistency surrounding that parcel," said Kerri, a staff member. Kerri added a caution: "The only thing we always have to consider with any zoning map amendment is any use allowable in that district could continue."

The commission discussed that Revi Design is expanding operations northward into the acquired lot and noted the rezoning aligns with existing heavy-industrial activity on adjacent parcels. With the commission's approval, the ordinance will be forwarded to the City Council for final consideration on June 10, 2025.

Action taken was limited to the zoning map amendment and the lot-combination recommendation; no additional conditions or developer agreements were adopted at the meeting. No public testimony was offered during the public hearing for the rezoning, and staff did not raise outstanding technical issues beyond the typical caution about allowed uses in a higher-intensity district.

The commission's approval advances the rezoning to the council, which will consider final adoption on June 10.
