Selectmen back cemetery beautification plan, new plots layout and donations for upkeep

The Plaistow Board of Selectmen discussed a cemetery beautification plan on May 19 and gave consensus support to solicit memorial donations to fund needed improvements such as fencing, trees, benches and headstone repairs in a newly opened section of the cemetery.
Greg (Town Manager) updated the board that the town has appropriated funds and used trust-fund transfers to clear and level the new section and that the town has hired a contractor, Charlie Zilch, to lay out markers and new rows. He asked whether families who want to donate in memory of loved ones could be directed to a cemetery beautification fund; the board indicated consensus to allow that.
Selectmen discussed likely needs in the new section, including a fence along Steven Savage Way, plantings to separate the road from the cemetery, benches and resetting or repairing older headstones that are cracked or tilting. The cemetery sexton is working on identifying and prioritizing headstone repairs.
The board did not adopt a formal policy or create a separate trust at the meeting; rather members agreed they would accept donations directed to cemetery improvements and asked staff to advise callers where to direct contributions. The board member comments noted both the practical work already underway and the need to coordinate with families and the sexton on repairs.
