Council appoints four members to Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

Planning staff explained that the AIHAC is an 11-member advisory body required for the city's federal entitlement funding and that four seats were vacant. Applicants introduced themselves in public and answered council questions about their experience and interest in affordable housing. Applicants included Carla Amaral (local realtor and custom-home builder), Adolphus "AJ" Evans Jr. (former HUD manager with 30 years' experience), Kelsey Lombard (Palm Coast Flagler Chamber of Commerce) and Mindy Melendez (real estate broker and community volunteer).
Council voted unanimously to appoint Ms. Amaral, Mr. Evans, Ms. Lombard and Ms. Melendez. Staff noted the AIHAC will advise on local initiatives and incentives for increasing housing availability and affordability, and that the committee membership must meet categories identified by the interlocal agreement and state statute.
