The Needham Design Review Board unanimously approved a storefront sign for Eversight Optometry at 1498 Highland Ave during its May 19 meeting.
An applicant representative described the proposed sign as “just a aluminum bar frame sign with vinyl graphics going up matching the other neighboring signs,” saying the size and height will match the adjacent Kimba Fit sign and that the background color is off-white to blend with surrounding storefronts. The representative said the sign will be centered horizontally when installed.
Board members asked about illumination; the applicant said existing top-mounted sidewalk lights are in place and indicated the sign would use the existing lighting. Chair Mark Glusing said he appreciated that the applicant avoided a bright white background that can be “troublesome” on red-brick buildings.
The board approved the sign as submitted. The motion was made by Steve Dornbusch and seconded by Millie; Dornbusch, Millie and Chair Mark Glusing voted yes.
Board members noted the applicant’s attention to scale and materials to match the existing sign band on Highland Avenue. No conditions beyond standard permit coordination with the Building Department were placed on the approval.
