DuPage Care Center reports dementia unit full after admissions; committee approves beverage contract

May 20, 2025 — DuPage Care Center staff told the Human Services Committee that the facility's dementia unit is back to full occupancy and that staff took precautions during a recent dust storm; the committee separately approved a purchase order for beverages for the county campus cafes and the care center.

Janelle Chadwick provided the update. She said staff worked with maintenance supervisors to bring residents in and perform a head count during a recent dust storm and that the center is "back to the full 16 bed" for the dementia unit, which is now occupied. Chadwick also reported that construction work on two wings (referred to as 2 South and 2 North) had progressed from demolition to light framing.

Earlier in the meeting the committee approved a contract purchase order with Dr Pepper, The American Bottling Company, for beverages and fountain drinks for the DuPage Care Center and county-campus cafes for the period July 30, 2025, through July 29, 2026, for a contract total not to exceed $30,600. Chadwick said some leadership staff were out with COVID exposures at the time of her update and that the center was working on a policy related to bringing residents in during environmental events to limit breathing risks.
