City staff told the Whitehouse Planning and Zoning Commission that the city's Splash Park is scheduled to open on Memorial Day weekend and that resident passes will be available at City Hall.
Leslie, a city staff member, briefed commissioners on several park projects and a consultant-led concept plan for Cheyenne Park. "We received almost 200 responses on our most recent survey looking at the 2 preliminary concept plans," Leslie said, and staff are working to finalize a master plan that will include phased features based on survey interest.
Staff also reported that Aaron Martinez, the city's director of parks and facilities, secured a grant from the National Fitness Campaign that will add an outdoor gym at Cheyenne Park. The presenter said the city council has not yet accepted the grant; staff estimated the grant amount at about $50,000 and said an additional sponsor has been identified to supplement funding.
On timing, staff said construction notice-to-proceed for Cheyenne Park is estimated to be released in January 2026 with construction completed in 2026. Staff described ongoing discussions about project phasing to match features to public interest.
Commissioners were told staff will share more information with the public as the master plan and phasing details are finalized.
