City accepts $3,000 Walmart Spark Good grant to split among safety programs

The finance committee and Common Council on May 19 accepted a $3,000 Walmart Spark Good grant to be split between local public-safety programs.
A presenter asked the council to accept the grant on behalf of the fire and police departments and the Fraternal Order of Police. The funds will be allocated in three $1,000 portions: $1,000 to the fire department27s smoke and carbon monoxide alarm program, $1,000 to the police department27s crime prevention fund, and $1,000 to the Fraternal Order of Police27s Shop with a Cop program. The presenter thanked John Fitzgerald, a Walmart manager and long-time crime-prevention partner, for his advocacy.
Alderman Bergquist moved and Alderman Schmidt seconded acceptance of the grant. The motion passed on a voice vote and the finance committee chair adjourned the committee. Council members thanked the donor and partners for their support.
