Court backs $68,196 opioid-abatement grant application for Region 16 training and MAT services

Melinda Bonds of Heart Attached Behavioral Health Network told commissioners the proposal is to "provide medication assisted treatment and education and awareness to health care providers, EMTs, law enforcement, and other first responders," and said the region sees roughly 31–34 overdose deaths per year based on CDC data. She described the request as a way to expand training and capacity for the local workforce that responds to opioid overdoses.
Staff said the application requires a local letter of support and a commitment to partner with the county health services department on the work. Commissioners voted to authorize the county's participation and to sign the letter of support.
The court recorded the vote to move forward and asked the health district and partners to brief commissioners, if needed, on program implementation and reporting requirements once the grant award and terms are finalized.
