Board clears downtown event street and parking closures; adds two loading spots for winter market

The Franklin City Board of Public Works and Safety on May 19 approved road and parking closures for a series of Discover Downtown Franklin events in 2025 and amended the winter market permit to reserve two parking spots in front of the Elks Lodge for vendor load-in on Dec. 6.
Danny, executive director of Discover Downtown Franklin, walked the board through the packet and maps. He said Strawberries on the Square will close West Court Street and requested two parking spaces in front of the County Annex be reserved for musician load-in. He told the board the spring vintage market drew "almost 6,000 folks," and described route and alley access for Ethos Celebration of the Arts.
Board members approved each event individually by voice vote. Later in the meeting Danny asked to amend the winter market approval to include two parking spots in front of the Elks Lodge for vendor load-in on Saturday, Dec. 6; the board approved the amendment unanimously.
The board also approved standard crowd-control measures for Porchtober and Nov./Dec. markets, including rope barriers and adjusted start times to avoid evening darkness at sites without full street lighting. Police, fire and street departments were noted as having been consulted for closures and logistics.
All event approvals were recorded as passed by voice vote with no recorded dissent or conditions beyond the closures and parking reservations described in the event packets.
