Board approves two change orders on Active Adult Center; staff says July 1 opening likely

The Franklin City Board of Public Works and Safety on May 19 approved change orders 14 and 15 for the Active Adult Center construction project and heard an update from staff that the center is on track to open July 1.
"Change order 14 is actually in regard to the single family home that is immediately to the northwest of the property," Planning Director Joanna Tennell said, describing a storm inlet adjustment and the decision to add a concrete apron. She told the board change order 14 increases the contract by $5,520.
Tennell described change order 15 as the addition of a semi-recessed combination paper-towel and waste receptacle in the men's restroom to match other restrooms; she gave the cost as $764.75. Tennell said the project remains under $5,000,000 overall.
Mayor and board members discussed who would pay for the storm-inlet concrete; the mayor said the city may pay from stormwater funds rather than the project fund. The board asked that the mayor sign the change orders on the board's behalf; the motion to approve both change orders and to authorize the mayor to sign passed unanimously.
In department reports, Parks/Rec staff reported the site tour and said the center is finishing interior decisions and needs final furnishing. Chip (Recreation Director) told the board he expects the Active Adult Center to open July 1, with final furnishing and ribbon-cutting to follow.
The board did not set additional amendments to the project at the meeting; staff will return with routine construction updates and any further funding recommendations if needed.
