Commission approves richer paint sample for 145 N. Grant Ave.

Columbus City Committees on June 24 approved a revised exterior paint color for 145 North Grant Avenue after the applicant submitted a richer sample the panel had requested.

The decision follows staff presentation showing the property on Grant Avenue between Spring and Long streets and explaining that the paint application would be limited to brick that has already been treated. The applicant provided a new paint chip identified in materials as Benjamin Moore "White Sand OC-10," and photographs comparing the new chip to the existing painted brick.

The downtown design guidelines were cited by staff as favoring adaptive reuse and careful exterior repair. The applicant, represented in the hearing by Christine Panofsco of Grad Architects and Sangeetha Lakhani, was sworn in and presented the revised sample. Commissioners asked questions, a motion to approve was made and seconded, and the motion carried without recorded opposition.

The approval covers the submitted paint chip and elevations as presented; the commission said the new sample more closely matches renderings and the previously painted white brick cited in earlier proceedings. Staff will monitor the final installation to verify the paint is applied only to the described, previously treated brick.

Less critical details: the applicant first presented at the April downtown hearing, where commissioners asked for a richer color. The current approval does not change storefront repair requirements or other previously approved elements of the project.
