A board member who reviewed spot pricing during the meeting observed that, on that specific day, the spot market would have yielded a slightly lower cost (roughly $12,000 less) than the fixed bid; however, the board member and staff emphasized that the fixed price provides budget certainty and that the IU13 staff monitor spot and futures markets to advise on timing.
The fuel pricing update was informational only; the board had previously authorized participation in the consortium and took no additional vote at the meeting.
