The Solanco School District Board of School Directors on May 19 approved a three‑year services agreement with IU13 to supply online coursework and content for the district’s Solanco Virtual Academy.
The contract provides the coursework used by the district’s online program, including middle‑level innovation courses and a high‑school health course, and ties price to the number of students and courses taken, administration staff said. The district described the agreement as a lower‑cost alternative to outsourcing online instruction to external cyber charter providers.
Doctor Dangler, who presented the agreement to the board, said the IU13 platform supplies the content and that “the pricing is based on the number of students and the number of courses that they take.” Board members were told the arrangement costs less than sending students to private cyber charter providers and that a side‑by‑side cost comparison will be useful to state legislators.
The board voted to approve the three‑year agreement; a motion and second were recorded and the motion carried with all voting in favor. The presentation noted that final cost for the district depends on how many students enroll in the virtual academy and the number of courses each student takes.
District leaders also tied the virtual program to an ongoing enrollment conversation: administrators said Solanco’s virtual academy enrollment rose this school year while total district enrollment has declined slightly, and they framed the IU13 agreement as part of the district’s strategy for serving online learners while managing charter costs.
The board approved the agreement as presented and did not change contract terms during the meeting. Board members said they plan to monitor SVA enrollment and related costs as the new contract is implemented.
