Weber County to replace majority of ice-sheet mechanical equipment using state grant funds

The Weber County Commission approved a contract with LA Rosier to replace most mechanical infrastructure in the county ice sheet facility, using funds from a state Olympic legacy grant.
Todd Ferrario, presenting, described the contract as replacing “about 80% of the infrastructure, equipment room at the ice sheet.” He told commissioners the equipment controls both the Olympic rink and an NHL rink, and that some equipment is “pushing 30 years old.” Ferrario said the county received grant funds and had already begun related work, including HVAC and roof repairs.
A commissioner asked whether the ice-sheet work would be paid out of the county's $3.8 million in legacy grant funds; Ferrario confirmed the project is funded from that allocation. He said properties and county teams will take on several projects and that officials expect to see “a lot coming through in the next 18 months or so.”
Commissioners approved the LA Rosier contract by motion. Ferrario noted the county received a physical payment for the grant and that work is ready to proceed; staff will coordinate implementation and required procurement steps.
The action authorizes replacement work at the ice-sheet facility; the commission did not approve a project timeline beyond general expectations or provide a full line-item budget in the meeting record.
