Council opens public hearing on FY 2025-26 budget, directs staff to proceed toward June 2 adoption

The Stillwater City Council opened a public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2025-26 operating budget on May 19 and, after hearing no public comment, voted 4-0 to direct staff to proceed with a budget resolution for adoption at the council's June 2 meeting.
Christie Clark, assistant city manager and finance director, introduced the hearing and said there had been one change to the version presented in April: "There has been one change since the budget was presented back on April 21. So that change is an increase of $140,000 to the contract for services account in the CETA Destination Marketing Fund for the increase in the Visit Stillwater contract approved by the CETA trustees on May 5," Clark said.
Clark recommended the council direct staff to proceed with adoption by resolution at the June 2 meeting; the council moved to approve the staff recommendation and the motion passed 4-0. No members of the public signed up to speak during the hearing.
Councilors asked no substantive follow-up questions at the meeting about the budget presentation; staff said the posted public hearing schedule was included in the council packet and that staff was available to answer questions. The council's action simply authorizes staff to prepare the formal resolution for the June 2 meeting where the council will consider formal adoption of the FY 2025-26 budget.
