Board recognizes state champions and installs new student board members

At its meeting, the Community High School District 99 Board of Education recognized student achievement in journalism and SkillsUSA and introduced the district’s incoming student board members for the 2025–26 school year.
Journalism coaches and district staff celebrated a state showing in IHSA competitions, including multiple individual awards and a state champion in radio news. "Sebastian was our state champion for IHSA radio," said a representative for Downers Grove South, noting the student had graduated the day before.

SkillsUSA coaches summarized the competition structure and student presentations, including an engineering project described by graduating student Matthew Lynn that designed an automatic deadbolt to reinforce classroom doors during a lockdown scenario. Students and coaches emphasized real-world experience, competition structure, and benefits for college and career preparation.
Administrators also presented incoming student representatives, highlighting their activities and planned contributions. The board thanked outgoing student board members for their service and presented tokens of appreciation.
