Kent Police swear in two officers, reinstate traffic school; correctional facility death under investigation

Kasner introduced Officer Tristan McDaniel and Officer Nicholas Long, describing their backgrounds and welcoming family members for the swearing-in. Kasner also said the department promoted two new sergeants last week: Sergeant Lovisa Dvorak, an 18-year Kent Police Department veteran, and Sergeant Chelsea Bridal, with seven years in the department.
On other items Kasner told the council the department is "continuing a thorough investigation into the death at the city of Kent Correctional Facility. Toxicology results are pending," and that the delay is due to reliance on outside toxicology testing. He also announced that traffic school has been reinstated and directed residents to the police department webpage for information on eligibility and application steps. Kasner summarized the program's purpose: "Traffic school is a refresher on maybe the violation that you committed... it will be deferred off your record, and it does have an impact on your insurance rates."
Mayor Dana Ralph and council members asked no substantive follow-up questions during the report. Kasner closed by inviting further questions and noting the department will provide updates when the toxicology results are available.
