Council authorizes purchase of 2,161 sq ft parcel from King County for Mill Creek reestablishment project

Kent council authorized acquisition of a 2,161-square-foot parcel from King County for $2,800 to support the Mill Creek Reestablishment project, a water-quality, flood-risk reduction and fish-passage effort.
Cheryl Wolczyk Wilcox, the city’s property and acquisition analyst, presented the parcel and said King County acquired it by foreclosure and has agreed to sell it to the city for $2,800. The parcel lies east of homes on Woodford Avenue, just south of Kent Memorial Park; the city already owns adjacent property to the east known locally as the “little property,” she said.
Wolczyk Wilcox explained the parcel will support removing sediment, restoring riparian habitat and relocating the creek farther from homes on Woodford Avenue. Council member Fincher moved the authorization, which included a condition that final terms be acceptable to the public works director and city attorney. The motion carried unanimously by voice vote.
The purchase is intended to support upcoming construction and design work for the Mill Creek project; staff did not present an acquisition closing date in the committee discussion.
