Dalton City’s mayor and council on May 19 approved on second reading Ordinance 25-12 to rezone a 0.55-acre parcel at 1213 Harris Street from medium-density single-family residential (R-3) to transitional residential (R-6) to align the zoning with the building’s duplex-like form.
The rezoning request was filed by Roberto Silva; city planning staff told the council the structure was built similar to a duplex but the current R-3 zoning did not permit duplexes. Planning staff said the parcel is adjacent to transitional residential zoning on its east and north sides and that both the planning commission and planning staff recommended approval.
The council moved, seconded and voted in favor of the second reading; the minutes record the motion, second and the mayor calling for the ayes.
Planning staff noted the change brings the property into conformance with the Unified Zoning Ordinance and would allow the petitioner to operate the structure as a duplex under the R-6 district standards. No amendments to the ordinance were recorded during the May 19 meeting.
No public speakers were recorded on the rezoning item at the May 19 meeting. The council did not attach additional conditions beyond standard zoning procedures.
