Council approves pay applications for MH 379 West reconstruction; contractor to begin paving in June

The Mineral Wells City Council approved two pay applications related to the MH 379 West street reconstruction project and received a construction schedule update that puts paving in June and final completion in August.

Public Works staff reported that crews removed the existing pavement to subgrade, subcontractor BMS completed the cut, and contractor Peachtree Construction has been bringing in subgrade and flexible base. Staff said paving of the surface course is expected in June and will likely take three to four weeks to a month; the project remains on the previously communicated schedule with substantial completion expected in July and final completion in August.

Council approved Pay Application No. 1 (Peachtree Construction) by voice vote, and later approved Pay Application No. 2 for $270,233.67; both motions carried 7-0. During the update staff noted a roughly 100-foot alignment shift required additional paint striping handled via a work change directive; the estimated overrun for that change was described as about $500–$600.

Public Works staff offered to answer specific questions about pay applications and schedule but otherwise recommended approval to keep the project on schedule. Council confirmed there were no further questions before voting to approve the payment requests.

The approvals authorize payment to Peachtree Construction for completed work to date; staff will continue to monitor the schedule and change orders and report back in subsequent meetings.
