Wooster resident raises safety concerns on Cedar Lane parking; council refers issue to traffic commission

A Wooster resident told the City Council on May 19 that parking has become a safety hazard on Cedar Lane and asked the council to reconsider the street's parking rules.
"I've lived there since 1994. When I first moved in there, there was no parking anywhere on that street," resident Patty Dillon told council. She said cars now park along the curving, uphill street near her driveway so often that she must back into oncoming traffic and described nearly being hit when leaving her home.
Council members and staff responded that traffic and parking issues are handled by the city's traffic commission and suggested the resident submit a request so the commission can evaluate the block and make a recommendation. A staff member explained the traffic commission includes the city engineer, assistant police chief, maintenance manager and community members and will consider whether no-parking signs, enforcement or other measures are appropriate.
Council also noted they would research the street's sign history and encouraged the resident to contact police for specific enforcement issues such as boats or other vehicles parked in violation of rules. The item was not a formal agenda action; staff directed the resident to the traffic commission process for evaluation and possible signage or enforcement changes.
