The Government Operations Committee on May 18 approved the requested street and parking-lot closures and sound-amplification for the 2025 Fox Valley Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 21.
Chief Majewski said the race will be centralized in Mount Saint Mary’s Park with a 7 a.m. start and an expected finish around 2 p.m. The route described will use the Prairie Street Bridge to Riverside Avenue, travel north to Illinois Street, then west to First Street and Route 31, run south toward Aurora and return on the Riverwalk to Mount Saint Mary’s. Last year’s event raised more than $100,000 for local, regional and national charities and attracted more than 2,600 runners; this year organizers estimate about 2,800 participants.
Police and EMA personnel will manage road closures and traffic; Chief Majewski reminded organizers to be sensitive to nearby residents when using amplification. Event coordinators named were Craig Bixler and Tom Horvath. The committee approved the proposal on roll call.
