Committee approves E-1 one-day craft-beer permit for Hops for Hope 5K

The Government Operations Committee on May 18 approved a Class E-1 temporary liquor permit for a one-day event, Hops for Hope, to be held Oct. 18, 2025, in Mount Saint Mary’s Park with estimated attendance of about 1,000.
Chief Majewski said the event is a repeat festival and that the permit authorizes dispensing and on-site consumption of craft beer in a fenced area that will include an entry point for credentialed runners and attendees. Project Mobility, a nonprofit working with the Bike Rack of St. Charles, is organizing the event to raise funds for adaptive cycling for people with physical disabilities. Catherine Rita and Tammy Simmons were identified as the organizers.
Staff said two EMA members and two police officers will be assigned to cross traffic on Route 31 and to oversee the beer area; volunteers will check IDs and confirm registrants are 21 or older and issue event wristbands. Chief Majewski also recommended approval of a temporary sound-amplification permit; committee members asked that amplification be kept at reasonable levels for neighbors. The permit was approved on roll call.
