Cohoes student credits small district and staff for career readiness

Student, Cohoes City School District, said the district's small size and close-knit staff helped prepare them for a planned career in aviation. "What makes the Cohoes City School District stand out to me is that it's relatively small compared to other schools around us, but we really make it work for us. We're a tight knit community," the student said.

The student told meeting participants that personal connections in the district led to direct recruiting and advising help. "Miss Heaney, she helped me. She got me in contact with the recruiter. She set up meetings and then it just went forward from there," the student said, attributing the outreach and coordination to a named teacher.

The student described a clear post‑graduation plan: "My plans for the future are to go to Florida Tech College, and I wanna be a pilot and get a bachelor's in aviation management with flight." They also said a military path had been considered earlier: "I definitely had a career set out in the military." The student credited administrators, guidance staff and teachers for preparation and guidance: "I feel really prepared for my future because the staff, the administrators, guidance, all that kind of stuff, they're very realistic and it's very helpful. It's been nice to have that direction, and I definitely wanna say thank you to all my teachers. They've all really helped prepare me for the major they're about to take on, and I definitely owe them a lot more than I think I could ever put into words."
