Planning panel recommends C4-to-C2 rezoning on North Hamilton Street so building can host childcare and events

The building in question totals about 4,000 square feet and has hosted commercial uses in recent years.
Applicant Alex Vital (listed in the record as Alex Vital or Vital) said an event center operated on the site in December 2024 but was closed after city staff determined the property was zoned C4 and that an event center was not permitted. Vital said the rezoning request is intended to regularize that prior use and allow an event center to operate from one of the suites. No members of the public spoke in opposition at the hearing.
The commission voted to recommend approval and will forward that recommendation to the City of Dalton for a final decision. If the city approves the rezoning, permitted uses would include childcare and event facilities under the C2 district as described by staff.
