Superintendent reports districtwide gains in ELA and math; results not final
Summary

Superintendent Dr. Moore reported the district’s preliminary assessment results to the board, saying Indian River County students have shown year-over-year gains in English language arts and math and that the district is both “outpacing” and “outperforming” state averages in several grade bands.
For ELA (grades 3–10) Dr. Moore reported a five percentage point increase districtwide compared with last year; third grade rose from 63% to 69% (a six-point increase). He said elementary schools increased from 62% to 65%, middle schools showed a “significant 10 percentage point increase,” and high schools rose from 56% to 61%.
On math, Dr. Moore reported elementary scores increased from 68% to 71%, and middle school math rose from 50% to 58%. He characterized the changes as “absolutely huge numbers” and said the district’s growth “isn’t being done anywhere else.”
Dr. Moore cautioned the figures are not yet finalized because some schools are still completing assessments: the district will continue science, civics and U.S. history testing and expects additional score changes as final data is collected. He said state comparisons will be updated as remaining assessments are completed.
Board members responded with praise for teachers and staff. One board member noted the district is likely to rank higher in state standings once all results are compiled. The superintendent said staff will continue summer work on scheduling and professional learning even as schools close for summer.
