School Board honors Peggy Poisal after more than 50 years of service

The School Board of Indian River County on May 2025 issued a proclamation honoring Peggy Poisal for “over 50 years of distinguished service” to the district and heard remarks from board members, former colleagues and Poisal herself.
The proclamation, read by several former district leaders and family members, says Poisal began her district career on Aug. 23, 1974, and served “with unmatched integrity, loyalty [and] professionalism,” culminating in a role as executive assistant to the superintendent. The board adopted the proclamation by voice vote; the chair announced it passed 4-0.
The proclamation text notes Poisal worked at Rosewood Elementary, Vero Beach Junior High and Vero Beach High School before spending more than two decades in the superintendent’s office. Former and current officials joined the dais to read the proclamation and present framed recognitions.
Dr. Moore, superintendent, told Poisal the district “would not be where it is today without your constant support, constant push, and just trying to be everything in order to ensure that this district functions the way that it is.” Board members praised Poisal’s institutional knowledge and steadiness: “If you had a question that no one else could answer, you just call Mrs. Poisal,” said a board member.
Poisal spoke briefly and read prepared remarks acknowledging colleagues past and present, naming former co-workers and thanking the leadership team for support during crises including Hurricane Isaiah and COVID-19. She also thanked staff who helped her daily and introduced Sarah Milliman as her successor in the superintendent’s office.
In closing remarks Poisal said, “My heartfelt thanks to you all and God bless each 1 of you.” The board presented framed materials and photographs with family members after the formal remarks.
The board also discussed presenting a retirement gift at an upcoming meeting; a board member asked to add that item to the next agenda.
