Utility board approves $20,217.28 for Ludlow Hills substation battery replacement and spill containment

The Lawrenceburg Utility Board voted to approve replacement of the battery bank at the Ludlow Hills Substation for $18,954.20 and an associated spill containment system for $1,263.08, for a total of $20,217.28.
Utility staff presented an engineering study by IMPA that recommended the replacement; Eric Webster said the batteries currently in service date to February 2006 and that the proposed batteries come with a 25-year warranty and expected service life. Webster told the board the batteries will support relays inside the substation and maintain relay operation during extended outages.
City attorney Dale Levin and board members indicated the quotes were appropriate and the board approved the purchase by voice vote. Staff noted the project was not included in this year's capital budget and will be processed as an operational purchase; staff will schedule installation and report back on timing.
